Festive R.I.D.E. Results – Week Six


DRPS completed its sixth week of the Festive R.I.D.E program, stopping more than 813 vehicles and charging 2 drivers with impaired driving offences.

Durham Regional Officers conducted R.I.D.E checks in Ajax, Clarington, Pickering, Port Perry, Whitby and Oshawa with the following totals (the numbers in brackets reflect 2020 sixth week totals for comparison):

0 (2) People received “3 Day Suspensions” for registering a “WARN”
0 (0) Novice Driver received a 3, 7 or 30 Licence Suspension
2 (4) People were charged with Drinking and Driving Offences
4 (7) Criminal Code Charges
19 (26) Charged with various Highway Traffic Act offences
1 (0) Drug Offences

After the sixth week, the Festive R.I.D.E team has charged a total of 59 motorists with impaired driving offences. Last year at the same time, 47 had been charged. One incident of note, on Friday, December 24, 2021, a 65-year-old male driver of Blackstock was charged with impaired operation twice in one day, both of his vehicles were seized and the suspect faces numerous charges. This occurred in the area of Regional Road 19 and Old Scugog Road.

Note: Under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, anyone charged with a drinking and driving criminal offence will have his or her driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded automatically for seven days.
