The City of Oshawa is pleased to join the federal and provincial governments in officially naming August 1 as Emancipation Day. This day marks August 1, 1834 when slavery was abolished across the British Empire.

Known nationwide as the Civic holiday, on August 2, the City observes McLaughlin Day, celebrating Colonel R.S. McLaughlin and his love for Oshawa.

Holiday Hours

In observance of McLaughlin Day, there will be no waste collection service on Monday, August 2. Waste collection during the week will occur one day later than your regularly scheduled collection day due.
