Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, Capital and Technical Services, the Facilities Project Coordinator is responsible for providing project management services in the areas of construction, rehabilitation, capital maintenance, building upgrades, and building renovations/alterations for projects of up to $500K. Responsibilities include managing, prioritizing and planning project delivery for all rehabilitation projects including upgrades in technology, improvements to windows, walls, doors, roof replacement, roof repairs and painting projects etc. for City facilities; assisting with drawing management, space planning, furniture acquisition/repairs, building condition assessments, developments and implementation of short and long range plans, policies and procedures; assisting with effective and efficient capital planning, project planning and development strategies for the Facilities Management Services Branch and implement supporting systems and practices; providing policy and strategic advice to Management; providing project management services including scope of work, detailed design, drawings, coordination of client department needs, oversite of general contractors performance, substantial completion and commissioning, warranty, formal project hand over and post construction project review; approving invoices, progress drawings, extras to the project, process change orders, ensuring specifications are met and warranty and commissioning processes are followed.


Demonstrated knowledge and skills normally associated with the completion of a three year (3) College Diploma in a Technical/Engineering, Architectural, Construction or related field along with five (5) years of project management/coordination experience preferably in a municipal environment.

Registered Project Management Professional (PMP) with the Project Management Institute (PMI).

Established skills and experience using PC equipment and related software applications (i.e. Microsoft Suite, CAD and Microsoft Project).

Demonstrated technical knowledge of various trades involved with environmental systems/services (HVAC and Refrigeration, mechanical, electrical, life safety systems, building envelope, roof management).  Knowledge of workplace safety, building technologies and building code and legislative requirements.

Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with staff, elected officials, external agencies and members of the public.

Good interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships in a team environment.

Excellent project coordination and organization skills, and demonstrated ability to work on own initiative and ability to work under pressure in order to meet deadlines.

Possession and maintenance of a valid unrestricted Ontario Driver’s Licence, minimum Class “G”.
