Eastman and Whyne named Ontario Tech athletes of the week


OSHAWA, Ont. – Austin Eastman (Lindsay, Ont.) of the men’s hockey team and Aprille Whyne (Montreal, Que.) of the women’s basketball team have been named the Ontario Tech athletes of the week for the period ending November 7.
Eastman, a commerce student, started the season with a four-point game (one goal and four assists) as the Ridgebacks earned a 6-1 victory over Nipissing. They wrapped up the weekend as a team with three points, losing 2-1 in a shootout, with Eastman earning an assist on the lone Ridgeback goal in regulation.
Whyne, a criminology and justice studies student, led the Ridgebacks women’s basketball team in scoring in their opening weekend split against the Laurentian Voyageurs. She finished the weekend with 24 points, with an impressive 13-for-16 from the free-throw line and 5-for-11 from the floor.
The men’s hockey team heads to Kingston on Friday to face RMC before returning home on Saturday to host the Paladins. The basketball programs return home for back-to-back games against the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday and Saturday.
The Ontario Tech student-athlete of the week award is presented by Subway located at 2069 Simcoe Street North in Oshawa.
