Gomercic signs pro contract with ECHL’s Gladiators

OSHAWA, Ont. – Ontario Tech’s Matthieu Gomercic (Winnipeg, Man.) signed with the Atlanta Gladiators of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) on Thursday.
The kinesiology major was in his third season with the Ridgebacks men’s hockey program and fourth year academically.
“The environment created by everyone involved in athletics at Ontario Tech allowed me to grow as a player, student and as a person,” said Gomercic. “The culture that our team has developed is undoubtedly a great environment for everyone to be able to develop and succeed on the ice as well as away from the rink. I just want to thank everyone for all the time and energy they’ve invested in me to allow me to reach these new opportunities. I know I’ll definitely miss being in Oshawa and seeing my teammates every day.”
Gomercic joined Ontario Tech in 2018-19, finishing his career with the Ridgebacks with nine goals and 16 points over 54 games.
“Our program is very happy to see Matt sign his first pro contract,” said head coach Curtis Hodgins. “He has been an outstanding Ridgeback and has played a huge role in helping drive our culture on and off the ice. Matt is a real strong two-way player who skates well, so his game should translate nicely into the ECHL. We look forward to watching him take this next step in his hockey career. “
The Gladiators begin a three-game stretch against the Florida Everblades tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. at Gas South Arena.
