Late Lions goal hands Ridgebacks second preseason loss


TORONTO, Ont. – A goal in the last two minutes of regulation by Benjamin Evanish lifted the York Lions to a 5-4 victory over the Ontario Tech men’s hockey team on Saturday night.
With both teams filling the scoresheet, it was a back-and-forth affair. Kelton Hatcher (Marine City, Michigan) opened the scoring 14:21 into the first period.
York tied the game before Keaton Holinaty (Hardisty, Alta.) put the Ridgebacks ahead again at the 11:50 mark of the second. After the Lions went ahead again, Evan White (St. John’s, N.L.) knotted the game again, this time 3-3.
Tyson McConnell (Pilot Mound, Man.) scored the final Ontario Tech goal of the night at the 12:30 mark, tying the game 4-4 before Evanish’s game winner.
Leif Hertz (Kingston, Ont.) made 32 saves in the loss.
Ontario Tech returns home for their final two preseason games on Oct. 28 against Carleton and Oct. 30 against Toronto.
