Ridgebacks hand Gaels first loss of the season

KINGSTON, Ont. – In dramatic fashion, the Ontario Tech men’s hockey team picked up a 4-3 win over the Queen’s Gaels on Friday night.
This was the first meeting between the two teams in the east division, with Queen’s coming into the night undefeated.
After going ahead 3-0, the Ridgebacks let the Gaels come from behind to tie the game 3-3 and send it to overtime. Despite opportunities by both teams, including a breakaway by Austin Eastman (Lindsay, Ont.), a shootout was needed to determine the winner.
Both teams missed their first opportunities, followed by Eastman finding the back of the goal. Captain Jack Patterson (Bedford, N.S.) iced the game after a second Queen’s miss in the shootout.

Cullen McLean (Whitby, Ont.) opened the scoring for Ontario Tech with his first OUA goal, while Matthieu Gomercic (Winnipeg, Man.) scored his first of the 2021-22 season.
Michael Bullion (Anchorage, Alaska) made 39 saves in the win, while Luke Richardson made 32 in the loss.
Ontario Tech is now off for week as they prepare for a rare 3 p.m. puck drop on Friday, Nov. 26 against Nipissing.

Overall Record: 5-6-0
Conference Record: 3-1-1
Next Game: Friday, Nov. 26 vs. Nipissing Lakers (3 p.m. – Campus Ice Centre • Oshawa)
