Yuill ready for pro opportunity with Guildford Flames

OSHAWA, Ont. – A year later than expected, former Ontario Tech men’s hockey captain Alex Yuill will join the Guildford Flames for the 2021-22 season.
The five-year member of the Ridgebacks signed with the Guildford Flames in July 2020 after graduating from Ontario Tech University. The Flames compete in the Elite Ice Hockey League in the United Kingdom.
“We were glad to hear that Alex’s desire to compete was not dampened by the interruption to last season,” said Flames head coach Paul Dixon in the team’s announcement. “Certainly, returning to the intensity of full-contact, competitive play will be a bit of an adjustment, but he is still a younger guy and has had enough ice and training time to be able to slip back in.
“We think Alex will be a great fit with the kind of team we want to put on the ice, and we are looking forward to watching him debut with us.”
Yuill finished his career as a Ridgeback defenceman, never missing a game. He played 140 regular season games with Ontario Tech, scoring 12 goals and 69 points, while scoring a goal with four assists over 10 postseason games.
On top of his experience with the Ridgebacks, Yuill was also a member of the Canadian team that won bronze at the 2019 FISU Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. That season he was named the Ontario Tech male athlete of the year.
