Pickering, ON, August 12, 2021 – Amazon Logistics will be opening a new 130,000 square foot delivery station at 1400 Squires Beach Road, which is scheduled to be operational between late 2022 and early 2023. Amazon Logistics is a global leader in ‘last mile’ delivery to customers with its delivery stations acting as the endpoints where orders are prepared before heading out to their destinations.
This delivery station is expected to create over 200 jobs in sortation, operations, and management with approximately 85 per cent being full-time, permanent positions. Amazon Logistics expects to commence its recruitment efforts four to six weeks prior to launch.
In addition, hundreds of additional jobs will be created via its innovative Delivery Service Partners (DSP) and Amazon Flex programs, which will support and enhance Pickering and Durham Region’s local entrepreneurial ecosystem. As part of its post-COVID business recovery efforts, Pickering’s Economic Development & Strategic Projects Department will partner with Amazon Logistics in promoting these programs and opportunities to local entrepreneurs and independent contractors.
For clarification purposes, this development is not the same Amazon facility or operation that was being considered at the Durham Live site earlier this year.
“Amazon is one of the world’s premier e-commerce companies, and Pickering is proud to be the future home of one of its newest logistics facilities. We are thrilled with this investment in our city, and we look forward to all of the new employment opportunities it will create for job seekers, entrepreneurs, and independent contractors.”
Mayor Dave Ryan, City of Pickering
“We are proud to invest in the award-winning municipality of Pickering to create great, in-demand jobs and help our customers receive their valuable orders even faster.”
Jasmin Begagic, Director, Amazon Logistics for Ontario
