Notice of Vacancy in the Office of City Councillor, Ward 2


TAKE NOTICE that a vacancy exists on City of Pickering Council for the office of City Councillor, Ward 2 and that on November 22, 2021, Council decided to fill this vacancy by appointment in accordance with Section 263(1)(a) of the Municipal Act, 2001.

The term of office for this position is from the date of the Council appointment to when the new Council is deemed to be organized after the 2022 Municipal Election.

A Special Electronic Council Meeting to appoint a successful candidate will be called for January 2022. Qualified candidates will be notified of the Meeting date by the City Clerk.

To qualify to hold office on municipal council, candidates must be a qualified elector as set out in the Municipal Elections Act and therefore must:

  • reside in the City of Pickering or be the owner or tenant of land there, or the spouse of such owner or tenant;
  • be a Canadian citizen;
  • be at least 18 years old; and,
  • not be prohibited from voting under the Municipal Elections Act or otherwise by law.

Interested, qualified individuals, must make an appointment with the City Clerk and submit the following, in person, during regular office hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.:

  • a Consent of Nominee Application and Declaration of Qualification; and,
  • a letter, no longer than two (2) letter-sized pages, identifying the reasons you feel you are qualified to fill the vacancy for City Councillor, Ward 2.

The application must be accompanied by two (2) pieces of identification confirming you are a resident, owner or tenant of land in the City of Pickering, or the spouse of an owner or tenant of land. Please note that one (1) piece of ID must contain a photo. Submissions must be in person and will not be accepted by fax or email.

The Consent of Nominee Application, Declaration of Qualification, and the applicant’s letter will all be considered public documents and will be attached to the public agenda for the Special Meeting in January, 2022.

The deadline to apply for the vacancy of City Councillor, Ward 2 is 4:30 p.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021.
