Ontario Basketball (OBA) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Dave Maxin as OUA Officials Supervisor.
Dave will be responsible for assisting in the oversight and management of the official’s panel for the sport of basketball within the OUA including carrying out official’s evaluations, and mentoring and assisting with the assignment process.
The OUA Officials Supervisor will also ensure the application of the FIBA rules are understood and enforced by the hired panel of officials, circulation of FIBA rule updates and points of emphasis to coaches, assign league games in accordance with quality of officials, considering travel distance and budget requirements, and participate in the evaluation of officials on the panel.
Dave comes to this OBA role with extensive experience as an official with the CEBL, NBL Canada, and OUA, having refereed in several CIS and OUA Championships, as well as on the Board for Toronto Board of Officials since 2018, and Peel Regional Board of Officials since 2001.
- What motivated you to apply for a job with Ontario Basketball?
My motivation was wanting to improve the game of basketball through officiating in Ontario, through education and mentoring of officials.
- What past work experience do you bring to the organization?
I am a father, husband, and educator. I have been involved in basketball in many capacities as a Player, Coach, Secretary, Interpreter, President, Facilitator and Official. I have officiated at all levels of basketball from elementary school through the USport National Championships. All of these roles have helped shape who I am and fuel my passion for the game.
- Is there a specific thing you’re looking forward to at OBA?
I am really looking forward to working with other people in the organization to educate all of our stakeholders and elevate the level of referees in Ontario.
- Do you have a fav all-time basketball player or team?
My favorite all-time team was the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls. 72-10, Jordan, Pippen, Rodmen, Salley ruled the court.
